The 2026 edition begins with the first of three qualifying rounds, where clubs from across South America compete for a place in the group stage and the chance to pursue football’s ultimate prize in the Americas. The opening round features one of the continent’s most historic clubs, Alianza Lima, after their quarterfinal appearance in the 2025 Copa Sudamericana.
The second stage of qualifying gets underway on February 17th and introduces additional heavyweights into the competition, including 2024 Copa Libertadores champions Botafogo and Ecuadorian powerhouse Barcelona SC, further raising the stakes as the road to the group stage intensifies.
